MANUAL HANDLING INSTRUCTORS COURSE

THIS COURSE IS INTENDED FOR:
Those members of staff who will be required to train personnel within their working environment in Manual Handling of loads.

COURSE CONTENT:
Principles of Safe Lifting and the Economy of Effort, ways to avoid spinal and associated injuries, implication of the Manual Handling Operations Regulations, practical manual handling and risk assessment, practice in manual handling instruction and action plan.

COURSE OBJECTIVES:
On completion of the course candidates will be able to:
  1. State the 6 principles behind safe manual handling of loads.
  2. Lift, carry and lower all heavy loads within their capacity, using aids or assistance as necessary, or provide advice and guidance to staff to enable them to do the same.
  3. Describe the parts of the body that are at risk of injury when loads are lifted incorrectly and the possible injuries that may occur as a result.
  4. Demonstrate the techniques that can be applied to the manual handling of loads in order to achieve economy of effort.
  5. Carry out risk assessments of manual handling tasks and suggest ways in which they can be achieved safely and with minimum effort.
  6. Plan and deliver manual handling training sessions.
DURATION:
4 days: – 0930-1630 hrs each day
